The Pandav caves is a simple cave complex at the hill station of Pachmarhi which got its name from the Pandavas of Mahabharata and there are five natural caves cut out of one big rock. It is believed that Pandav brothers from Mahabharata lived here in these 5 caves during the exile and hence it became famous. The gardens here indeed give a sense of relaxation and these caves are quite serene. The walls tell of its age and historic significance to see what life was like in those days. Located at a distance of 8 km from the main park area, the caves are accessible from dawn to dusk. It’s a charming peek into India’s ancient tales and talented rock artisans.

Once you take a short drive out of the park you reach an UNESCO World Heritage Site named the Bhimbetka and it is under protection. You’ll find ancient paintings on the walls that are thousands of years old and depict animals such as elephants, bison, and tigers, people dancing and hunting. It’s much like a giant history book, reading into how people lived in these forests before we did. Walking among these shelters you are brought face to face with the earliest ancestors of humanity.

The Denwa river flows near the Satpura and a dam is constructed to conserve water and it is known as the Denwa Backwaters. You can sit here and enjoy the tranquil surroundings with a view of the green hills of Pachmarhi in the front. Many hotels, such as those here at Seven Safars, also have stunning views over this water. You take boat rides on the backwaters which is a peaceful and unusual way to go birding and even spot some animals as they come for a drink. After a hectic day on safari its very nice and relaxing place to spend an evening. It's quiet for a little quiet reflection and some good nature photography.

To get a superb panoramic view of the park visit the Dhoopgarh peak which is the highest point in the Satpura Mountain Range. The sunrise and sunset views are necessary when the sky turns orange / pink / purple and the entire forest looks like a green carpet has been thrown on. The summit is around 17 km from the park and with every turn and up you get closer to the top. Bear in mind to take your jacket with you as it may get windy and cool on the top, and this is a must place to go when in Satpura National Park. For those who love waterfalls then to our left is the Bee Falls which plunges from a very high point into a lush, green valley. To get here, you need to go on a short trek, the water is clean and cold, and you can sit on the banks and enjoy it. The waterfalls are around 8 km away from the park. The cool mist of the powerful cascade creates a microclimate that feels wonderfully refreshing.

Another wonderful water body near Satpura is the Tawa Reservoir also known as Tawa Lake where a boat ride on this vast lake is a must. You are supposed to get a different perspective on birds from the boat and also to see some water-birds in the mild breeze retreating. It's a calm and tranquil pursuit, and a pleasant rest stop from bouncing about in a jeep. Boat rides are unintrusive and exciting that allow whole families to connect with nature in a very special way. The smooth voyage rides through spectacular landscapes as the forested hills come down to meet the water.
